The Assam cabinet has decided to provide minority certificates to people belonging to Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain and Parsi religious communities.

Assam Cabinet Decision: In Assam, now six communities will be given minority certificates on the basis of religion. The Assam cabinet has decided to provide minority certificates to people belonging to Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain and Parsi religious communities. Giving information, Minister Keshab Mahant in the state government said that soon it will be announced and preparations will be made to give the certificate.

This decision has been taken in the meeting of the state cabinet held in Guwahati under the chairmanship of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Earlier in the past, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said in the assembly that the definition of minorities should be changed district-wise. He said that the people of tea garden are not a minority, as they have OBC certificates and are getting minority benefits as Christians.
