24 security personnel have been killed in a fierce encounter with Naxalites in Chhattisgarh's extreme Naxal-affected Bijapur district on Saturday. According to Dainik Jagran's collaborative publication Naiduniya, bodies of martyred soldiers have been found close to the village and in the forest. DGP DM Awasthi has informed Naiduniya that two bodies have been exhumed and 20 bodies are on the spot. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is leaving his election campaign in Assam in the wake of the Naxalite attack and returning to Delhi. He is returning after addressing one of three rallies. Jitendra Singh, BJP's co-in-charge for the Assam assembly elections, has given information about this. 

The Naxalites have looted more than two dozen weapons and even taken away the shoes and clothes of the jawans. Earlier on Saturday, the police had confirmed the martyrdom of 5 jawans, and 21 jawans were said to be missing. Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel regarding the encounter. On the orders of the Home Minister, CRPF Director General Kuldeep Singh arrived in Chhattisgarh this morning to take stock of the situation. CM Baghel will return to Chhattisgarh from Assam by this evening. He said that he had a conversation with Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone. He has sent the Director-General of CRPF to the state.

In this, 30 jawans injured have been admitted to the hospital. Of these, 23 injured have been admitted to Bijapur Hospital and 7 have been admitted to a hospital in Raipur. The condition of all is being told out of danger. A reinforcement party has been sent to the site of the encounter. More than a dozen Naxalites are reported dead.

Chhattisgarh Director General of Police DM Awasthi had informed on Saturday that a joint team of security forces had an encounter with Naxalites during the anti-Naxal operation. For the last 10 days, security forces in Chhattisgarh were getting information about the whereabouts of Madvi Hidma, a top Naxalite of the banned CPI (Maoist). His name has been associated with several major attacks, including the 2013 attacks in the Jhiram Valley. In 2013, more than 30 people, including senior leaders of the Chhattisgarh Congress, were killed in the Jhiram Valley Naxalite attack.
