Assembly elections are underway in five states including West Bengal and Assam. The third phase of voting is to be held on Tuesday, April 6 in West Bengal and Assam. Along with this, voting is going to be held in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry. A total of 832 companies of central security forces have been deployed in the constituencies in West Bengal to ensure peaceful elections. Of these, 214 companies of Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will be present in the third phase.

Polling will be held on 31 assembly seats in three districts of West Bengal on Tuesday. Polling will be held in eight seats in Hooghly district, seven in Howrah, and 16 seats in South 24 Parganas district. In the third phase, 205 candidates are in the fray for 31 assembly seats in West Bengal, out of which 11 are the maximum in the Diamond Harbor Assembly seat.

However, when it comes to the representation of women, only 13 women candidates are contesting in the third phase, which is only six percent of the total candidates.

A total of 307 companies have been deployed in South 24 Parganas, while 167 companies have been deployed in the rural areas of Hooghly District Police Department. In addition, 144 companies have been deployed in Howrah district.

337 candidates including minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the fray in Assam

Voting for 40 assembly seats is scheduled on April 6 in Assam. In the third phase, voting will be done for 337 candidates including Minister of State Himanta Biswa Sarma. The election here will be held after the third phase of assembly elections.

Elections to be held for 140 assembly seats in Kerala

Polling will be held for 140 assembly seats in Kerala on Tuesday. A total of 957 candidates are in the fray for 140 seats here. According to Election Commission data, the total voters of Kerala include 1,32,83,724 male, 1,41,62,025 female and 290 transgender voters.

Elections to be held for 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu

Voting will be held on April 6 for 234 assembly seats in Tamil Nadu. There is a government of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) here. In the last election, AIADMK won 136 seats and the main opposition party DMK won 89 seats.

Elections for 30 assembly seats in Puducherry

Voting is to be held on Tuesday for 30 assembly seats in the Union Territory of Puducherry. There is a direct fight between the Congress-led coalition and the BJP-AINRC-AIADMK alliance in the Puducherry assembly elections.

Significantly, the results of the five state assembly elections will come on May 2. Elections in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are to be held on April 6 in a single phase. The election will end after the third phase of voting in Assam tomorrow. However, elections will continue in West Bengal even after this.
