The ruling party BJP has got an edge in the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation elections. BJP has got eight seats in its account. The Congress had to satisfy itself on five seats. While four independents have won the election. Of these, two are supported by the BJP, and two are supported by Congress. In the Dharamshala Municipal Corporation elections, even though the BJP has been number one, they have not got a clear majority. The BJP is one step behind the majority figures. The party can get the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor only by a majority of independents. In this way, if the four candidates who have won the elections support their ideology, then the BJP will have ten and the Congress will reach seven. In such a situation, it can be said that the shame of the ruling party has survived here. The Congress has suffered a major setback in the municipal elections.
However, if we look at the results, then the councilors who were from last time have won most of the elections. Both the previous mayors of the municipal corporation have won the election. Rajni Vyas is from Khaniara Ward and Devendra Jagi from Ramnagar. BJP's Deputy General Aunkar Nehria has also won the election from any other ward, Mucklodganj. Marchand Galatia, a BJP councilor from last time, BJP had cut his ticket. But despite contesting as an independent, he has become a counselor again by winning the election. Similarly, Sushma Devi contested as an independent candidate from ward number nine, she has also won the election. Devendra was in Jaggi's team for the last time. Similarly, Swarna Devi from ward number 12, who was the last time councilor of the Congress, the Congress had cut her ticket, But she has also won this time as an independent candidate by winning the election. In such a situation, it can be estimated that whoever was the councilor of the last time, the public has once again reposed trust in them. Apart from this, the BJP's Tejendra Kaur, who was a counselor last time, has also won the election.
These municipal elections were being considered as semi-finals before 2022 and Dharamshala is the second capital of Himachal Pradesh, all eyes were on here. For the election campaign also, both the BJP and Congress had given full force here. Union Minister of State Anurag Thakur was also fielded. Chief Minister Jairam Thakur also roamed around in the ward for publicity here. In Palampur, Congress has won 11, 2 BJP, and 2 Independents candidates.
