SBI has recovered about Rs 300 crore from about 12 crore BSBDA account holders during 5 years from FY 2014-15 to 2019-20. At the same time, Punjab National Bank has recovered Rs 9.9 crore from 3.9 crore BSBD account holders during the same period.
A study by IIT Bombay has revealed that most banks, including State Bank of India, are making huge money from these accounts through penalty, service charge etc.

According to the latest data, the number of Jan Dhan accounts has crossed 42 crores. Of these, 33.23 crores in public sector banks, 7.52 crore in regional rural banks, and 1.25 crore in private banks have been opened. The number of women in total Jan Dhan account holders is 23.27 crores.
