Patients who have recovered from Corona in Surat, Gujarat are facing the wrath of a disease called Mucor mycosis. So far, more than a hundred patients have been suffering from it, out of which 10 have also died. It is a type of fungal disease that reaches the brain through the nose and eyes. Mucor mycosis cases were not seen in the first wave of Corona, but now with the second wave, its cases are also coming up in Surat.
So far, 10 patients have lost their lives due to this disease in Surat. Surgeon of the nose, ear, and throat disease at Kiran Hospital, Dr. Bhavin Patel, says that after the treatment of corona, patients with diabetes are getting complaints of mucor mycosis.
It is a type of fungal infection that spreads quite quickly. In two weeks, there have been many cases of this. It is quite dangerous, starting from the nose and sinus and goes to the eye and brain. If there is pain in the nose and around it, if the nose is running or there is leakage of blood, then it should be checked immediately.
After its infection, dirt slowly starts to accumulate in the eye. To avoid this, wear a mask, do not put fingers in the nose and eyes. Keep drinking warm water and keep the eyes and nose clean. According to him, unbearable pain in the head, redness of the eye, sharp pain in the eye, falling water from the eye, bleeding, etc., immediate treatment is necessary.
Increasing cases of steroid use
Kidney specialist Dr. Sanket Shah says that cases of Mucor mycosis disease are increasing in patients recently recovered from corona. This is due to uncontrolled diabetes and giving steroids during the treatment of corona. In home isolation people also take steroids themselves, sometimes the sugar level is increased, which also increases the chances of mucor mycosis.
Take care of cleanliness
Dr. Shah said that the nose, eyes and mouth should be kept clean. With this, if the treatment is done in the initial symptoms, then the eyes and the life of the patient can be saved. More than four hundred cases of this disease have been reported in Gujarat, about one hundred and fifty cases have been reported in Ahmedabad and more than two hundred cases have also been reported in Vadodara and Rajkot.
Dr. Jigar and Dr. Utsav say that there has been a large number of cases of mucor mycosis in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot and Vadodara. A separate ward has been set up in Rajkot for the victims of this disease. Doctors say that the primary symptoms of this disease are neglected.
