6 days have passed since the result of the assembly elections in Assam. The BJP-led coalition has got a clear majority in the assembly, but despite this no decision has been taken on the next chief minister of the state. Current Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Senior Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday at the residence of BJP President JP Nadda in New Delhi.
BJP president JP Nadda has summoned CM Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma today to Delhi. The two leaders arrived in Delhi today on a chartered plane from Guwahati. First Himant Biswa Sarma and BL Santosh reached the residence of BJP President JP Nadda for the meeting. Himanta Biswa Sarma left after a meeting in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah at JP Nadda's residence in Delhi. After Himanta Biswa Sarma's departure from Nadda's residence, Chief Minister Sarbananda reached Sonowal. A meeting with CM Sonowal is going on at Nadda's house. Significantly, the two leaders have been called by the central leadership of the BJP to Delhi on the issue of the next government. Assam BJP spokesperson Roopam Goswami had said that the central leadership wants to discuss government formation in the presence of both the leaders.
However, Assam BJP President Ranjit Kumar Das said so much on Tuesday that one of the current Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal or Senior Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will be given the command of the state. He said that the decision of the next Chief Minister of the state will be taken in the party's Central Parliamentary Board meeting to be held in Delhi. The party is sending a supervisor, who will give his feedback to the parliamentary board. Das said, Sonowal or Sarma, either of them will be the Chief Minister. Every man knows this. I request our MLAs and activists to have some patience.
Union Agriculture Minister Tomar's visit to Guwahati postponed
Party sources said that Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar was expected to reach Guwahati on Tuesday to build a consensus on the leadership issue, but his visit has been postponed. BJP vice-president and Assam in-charge of the party, Baijayant Panda, had a separate meeting with Sonowal and Sarma on Monday, but did not tell the waiting reporters about the outcome of the meeting.
