US lawmaker Haley Stevens wrote a letter to US President Joe Biden requesting him to provide more direct assistance to India facing a frightening second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Stevens wrote in the letter, 'Over 400,000 cases of corona virus occurred in India last week. On May 4, 3,786 infected people died and the total death toll reached 2,26,188. Due to the rapid increase in cases, there was a lot of burden on the health system, hospitals are full of patients and there is a lack of oxygen. India is in great need of oxygen, treatment system and vaccines.
Thanking Biden for providing more than $ 100 million in aid to India, Stevens requested the White House to send more oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, oxygen plants, ramdescivir, tocilizumab and ventilators to India's hospitals.
He said, 'You are constantly assessing the situation in India, in which case I request you to consider fulfilling the above requirements. As long as the Covid-19 outbreak continues in India, there will be a risk of originating new forms of the virus, which may pose a serious threat in the US even after vaccination. We should do our bit to eliminate the virus from all sides.
