The cost of 470 infrastructure projects in the country has gone up by Rs 4.38 lakh crore as per the estimated estimate. This was revealed in the report of the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation. The ministry oversees infra projects worth Rs 150 crore and above. Out of a total of 1,737 such projects, the cost has gone up in 470 and there are delays in 557 projects.
According to the latest report of the Ministry of April 2021, the original cost of implementation of these total 1,737 projects was Rs 22,33,409.53 crore. Now the total potential cost of completing them has reached 26,71,440.77 crores. This increased the total cost of these projects by Rs 4,38,031.24 crore. This is 19.61 percent more than the actual estimate. According to the report, the expenditure on these projects has reached Rs 13,16,032.62 crore till April 2021, which is 49.26 percent of the fixed cost.
At the same time, out of a total of 525 delayed projects, 106 projects have been delayed by 1 to 12 months while in case of 123 projects, there has been a delay of 13 to 24 months. Whereas, 179 projects have been delayed by 25 to 60 months and 117 projects by 61 months or more. The average delay in 525 projects is 45.63 months. The delays in these projects have been due to problems in land acquisition delays, forest and time lag in obtaining environmental clearances. According to the report, the implementation of projects has also been delayed due to the 'lockdown' imposed in various states to prevent the Kovid-19 epidemic.
