85-year-old Saeed Sabri, the famous qawwal who brought laurels to Jaipur by singing many superhit songs and qawwali in Bollywood films, died of a heart attack on Sunday. He had been ill for a long time. Son Amin Sabri has appealed to the people not to gather too much in the funeral procession. Sabri's body was taken from Mathura Walon Ki Haveli to Ghatgate Cemetery in Jaipur on Sunday. He was buried there.
Their pair became very famous
Conferred with the President's Award, Saeed Sabri was an expert Qawwal of Jaipur's Qawwali tradition. His son Farid Sabri passed away about two months back. Fareed Sabri had pneumonia, due to which it affected his kidneys and lungs. Due to this, he died in the hospital. His body was kept at his ancestral residence Mathura Walon Ki Haveli in Jaipur. The pair of Saeed Sabri and his two sons Farid and Amin became very famous in the film industry. Now only Amin Sabri is left in this pair.
Qawwali was sung in many films
Known as the Sabri Brothers, these artists from Jaipur sang the song Deer Na Ho Jaye which became quite popular. He also performed qawwali along with singing in several films including the films Keshar Tum, Ik Mulakti Zaroori, and Hina. Saeed Sabri had jugalbandi with many big singers including Lata Mangeshkar. He became famous for his qawwali in the movie 'Hina'. The Sabri brothers had gained prominence with 'Delay Na Ho Jaye Kahin Deer Na Ho Jaye...'. Amin told that when Saeed Sabri fell ill, he along with his elder brother Farid took over the command of Qawwali.
