Unknown law enforcement agencies in the country have asked Twitter to remove some tweets by noted cartoonist Manjul, Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair and others for allegedly violating the law. The news agency PTI has said in its report that cartoonist Manjul, Mohd. Zubair and retired IAS officer Surya Pratap Singh shared screenshots of the notice sent by Twitter on their handle.
At present, it is not clear which agencies have raised the issue of tweets of these veterans. It is also not clear for what violations this has been done. According to the PTI report, there has been no response to the email sent to Twitter. Sources said that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is not involved in sending these instructions to Twitter.
A screenshot shared by Manjul shows Twitter saying that we are issuing this notice to inform you in the interest of transparency. We have received a request from Indian law enforcement agencies regarding your Twitter account. It has been said on behalf of the agencies that the content posted on your Twitter handle violates the law of India.
