The government here is trying its best to bring Mehul Choksi to India. An affidavit has been filed by the Indian authorities in this matter in the Dominica High Court today. It said that Mehul Choksi's Indian citizenship has still not expired. He is still our citizen. The affidavit said that the claim of relinquishing Indian citizenship is against the laws in India as it is completely false. Thus the claims being made by Mehul Choksi are completely bogus.
The affidavit states that the Indian government has taken up the issue of revoking the citizenship granted to him by Antigua with the government there. India has told the Antigua government that it has fraudulently acquired citizenship there. The law enforcement agencies in India need him in connection with the crime committed in the country.
The affidavit also stated that Mehul Choksi is an Indian citizen and his application for relinquishing Indian citizenship was rejected.
The affidavit filed by Indian authorities before the Dominica High Court stated that fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi is still an Indian citizen and his claim of relinquishing his citizenship under the Indian Citizenship Act 1955 is flawed.
