Leader of Opposition in Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari said that if Mukul Roy, who joined Trinamool Congress, does not resign as MLA by Tuesday, the BJP will apply to the Speaker and demand his dismissal. Opposition leader Suvendu also warned of going to court if necessary to sack Mukul from the post of MLA.
Suvendu said that he is hopeful that Mukul Royi will resign or else an appeal will be made to the Speaker on Wednesday to implement an anti-defection law against him. Taking a dig at Mukul Roy, he said that he never won an election. BJP has made him MLA. Suvendu along with a delegation of BJP MLAs visited the Raj Bhavan on this day and also met Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.
He apprised the Governor about various important aspects including the prevailing law and order situation in Bengal and requested him to intervene. He also appealed to the Governor to implement the anti-defection law in the state. Suvendu further said that Mukul Roy had contested elections from Jagdal in 2001 but he did not get success. After that, he was not seen in the electoral fray. After 20 years BJP gave him a ticket to contest the assembly elections and he won from Krishnanagar North seat. BJP's position is very strong in the Krishnanagar North seat. If the BJP booth president had also stood from there, then his victory was also confirmed.
It is worth mentioning that Mukul defeated Trinamool candidate and famous Bengali actress Kaushani Mukherjee in the Krishnanagar North seat. Sources said that Mukul was instrumental in getting Suvendu inducted into the BJP. Earlier, Mukul and Suvendu had worked together for a long time in Trinamool.
