Anurag Thakur is expected to get an important role once again in the new reshuffle in the Modi cabinet. Earlier in 2019, Anurag Thakur was made Minister of State for Finance. Anurag Thakur, son of former Himachal Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, is considered close to PM Modi and is one of the youth leaders of the BJP.
He was the chief whip of the BJP in the Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2019. He was also the President of BCCI from May 2016 to February 2017. Anurag became the youngest president of Himachal Pradesh State Cricket Association. Apart from this, he also became the youngest national selector in 2001 at the age of 26. Anurag Thakur has played only one match in his cricket career. Anurag played this only first-class match in 2000-01. Anurag led Himachal in this match against Jammu and Kashmir.
Hamirpur Anurag Thakur's stronghold
Hamirpur parliamentary seat is the traditional seat of BJP. In 1996, Major Vikramjit Singh Kanwar of Congress won the election from this seat, but since then this seat has fallen in the BJP's bag continuously. Anurag's father Dhumal was also elected four times MP from Hamirpur.
Studied till graduation
Anurag Thakur was born on 24 October 1974 in Hamirpur. He did his early studies from Dayanand Model School, Jalandhar, Punjab. After this he did BA from Doaba College, Jalandhar. On 27 November 2002, Anurag married Shefali, daughter of former Himachal PWD minister Gulab Singh Thakur.
Anurag's Political Journey
Anurag Thakur was elected MP from Hamirpur for the first time in 2008. He won the 2008 by-election and reached Parliament for the first time. After this, he also won in 2009, 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Apart from this, Anurag was also the National President of BJYM. In the year 2016, Anurag became the first MP to become a regular commissioned officer in the Territorial Army.
