Dehradun/Lucknow: After a lot of talks with the neighboring states about this, it was concluded that a new variant has knocked in Uttarakhand and now we do not want Haridwar to become the epicenter of the epidemic. People's lives are our priority and we don't want to take any risk. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said this to reporters on Tuesday. Regarding the decision to cancel the Kanwar Yatra this year after the Delta Plus variant case was found in the state, the CM clearly said that Uttarakhand does not want to be the cause of the third wave after warnings from experts. After this ban, a new strategy has been started for the Kanwar Yatra in the neighboring state of Uttar Pradesh.
You were told, that for the last one and a half weeks, talks were going on between Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh regarding organizing the Kanwar Yatra. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also talked to CM Dhami on phone more than once. After this conversation, Uttarakhand had almost agreed on the Kanwar Yatra in the past, but after the concerns and warnings of the experts, the Kanwar Yatra was canceled this year as a fresh decision. However, UP is still in favor of this yatra and is going to organize it at its level.
Yatra in UP will be with restrictions
The Kanwar Yatra is actually the journey of those devotees who go to the ghats of the Ganges to take Gangajal and take it to their village or home. There the deities are anointed with this Ganges water. When this yatra was last held in 2019, more than 35 million devotees had reached Haridwar. Haridwar has traditionally been the major center of this yatra, but this year, if Uttarakhand again cancels this yatra, UP will organize it at its level.
UP ADG Prashant Kumar for law and order said that this year the Kanwar Yatra will be held between July 25 and August 6. Officials also told that during this yatra in 2019, 2 to 3 crore pilgrims had reached the pilgrimage places of western UP. This year, along with following the Kovid protocol, it has been said that the Yatra will be approved and the UP government has claimed that it will be ensured that the discipline of Kovid rules is maintained.
It is noteworthy that this time instead of Haridwar, Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Shamli, Agra, Aligarh, Saharanpur, Bareilly, Khedi, Barabanki, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, There will be more traffic of Kanwaris in districts like Varanasi, Bhadohi, Mau, Mirzapur, Sitapur and Lucknow etc.
