Fugitive diamond trader Mehul Choksi again reached Antigua and Barbuda today. Here he has to meet his doctor for treatment and then return to Dominica. The extradition hearing has been postponed to bring back businessman Mehul Choksi, who ran away from Indian banks with a scam of thousands of crores, with the bail.
Choksi will be treated in Antigua
Choksi had filed a petition in the court regarding his illness and also talked to his physician in Antigua for its treatment. It was only then that Dominica's court granted conditional bail and said that Choksi would give the full address of where he was in Antigua. After treatment, he must return to Dominica. Let us tell you that Choksi describes himself as a citizen of Antigua and India does not have an extradition treaty with Antigua. Although according to Indian agencies, the citizenship of India is still there for Choksi, he did not leave it, so he is not a citizen of Antigua.
Was suddenly missing on 23 May
After depositing the bail amount, Choksi left for Antigua. He had also attached his medical report with the petition filed in the court. He also had a CT scan in it. Its treatment is not currently available in Dominica, so Choksi was allowed to go to Antigua. Wanted to scam Rs 13,500 in Indian banks, Choksi suddenly went missing from Antigua on 23 May.
Was absconding from India in 2018
Choksi took refuge here in 2018 after fleeing from India. According to local media, Choksi had to remain in custody for 51 days in Dominica for illegal entry, for which his lawyer had told a case of kidnapping. Choksi, 62, has been granted bail by a Dominica court. Also, permission for medical help was also obtained from the neurologist there by going to Antigua.
