The Supreme Court today asked the Uttar Pradesh government to reconsider its decision to allow Kanwar Yatra. The court, while giving time till Monday to the Uttar Pradesh government, said that by then it should inform the court about its decision, otherwise the court will issue an order. At the same time, in the affidavit filed by the Center in the court, it has been said that taking Gangajal from Haridwar to the temple of the Kanwariyas is not proper in view of the corona infection, so Gangajal should be made available through tankers from place to place. The court asked Uttar Pradesh to reconsider and has given time till Monday. "We would like to give you one more opportunity of consideration so that you may consider whether to allow travel or not," the court said.
The Center asked the Supreme Court to make tankers available at identified/determined places so that nearby devotees can collect 'Ganga Jal' and perform 'abhishek' at their nearest Shiva temples. During this, the state governments should ensure that the corona rules are followed. A hearing is being held today in the Supreme Court regarding the Kanwar Yatra to be held every year in the month of Sawan. A bench of Justices Rohington Fali Nariman and BR Gavai is hearing the matter. In the earlier hearing, the court had spoken of confusion among the people due to different decisions of the Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh governments. The court had said that people are completely confused. They don't understand what is happening.
The Supreme Court has taken self cognizance of the matter. The Uttarakhand government has canceled the Kanwar Yatra, but Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given permission for this yatra, taking full precautions. Expressing surprise at this order of Yogi, the Supreme Court had issued a notice to the state government and the Center. The details of the preparations made by the Uttar Pradesh government for this yatra are to be given in court. Complete preparations have been made with the Corona protocol for the proposed Kanwar Yatra in the state from July 25. Under this, every devotee will have to carry the RTPCR negative report with him. They can offer Gangajal in Shiva temples but following all the covid protocols including physical distance.
