Silsila Alikhil, daughter of Afghanistan's ambassador to Pakistan Najibullah Alikhil, was kidnapped and tortured for hours by some unidentified people. This sensational incident took place in the country's capital Islamabad when Silsila was in the market. Injured Silsila was treated in the hospital. No one has claimed responsibility for the incident and no one has been arrested so far. After the government's scolding, PM Imran Khan has ordered the arrest of the culprits of the incident. Vigilance has been increased in the Indian High Commission after this incident.
The Afghan government has reacted strongly to this incident and demanded the arrest of the culprits at the earliest and punishment. The troubles of the Pakistani government, surrounded by allegations of helping the Taliban, have increased after this incident.
According to the police, 26-year-old Silsila Alikhil was kidnapped from the expensive Rana Market in the Kohsar area of Islamabad on Friday. They later met near the F-9 Park area of the capital. Marks of torture were found on his body. He was brought to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science for a medical examination.
Pakistan's Foreign Office said on Saturday that Islamabad police had launched a thorough investigation soon after the "disturbing incident" was reported. The DAN newspaper reported that the security of Ambassador Najibullah Alikhil and his family has been increased after the incident.
Soon after the foreign ministry statement, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said Prime Minister Imran Khan had instructed him to use all resources to nab those involved in the abduction of the Afghan ambassador's daughter. The PM has also told them that Islamabad Police and other agencies should investigate the incident on top priority to bring out the facts and nab the culprits within 48 hours.
On the other hand, the Afghan Foreign Ministry in a statement issued on Saturday, reacting strongly, has urged Pakistan to identify and prosecute the perpetrators at the earliest. Along with ensuring complete security of Afghan embassies and consulates in Pakistan, as per international treaties and conventions, it has urged the security of diplomats and their families.
Meanwhile, opposition PPP Senator Sherry Rehman termed the incident as an attack on the values of Pakistan and the country. He said that we expect the Pakistani government to provide adequate security to the diplomats. On the other hand, Mohsin Dawar, another member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, said that the incident of abducting the daughter of the Afghan ambassador is very shameful. This is a danger signal for the whole of Afghanistan. Davar said in a tweet that the culprits of the incident should be punished immediately. To trace the abductors, the help of CCTV cameras installed in the city should be taken.
