The antibody of the corona has been made in two out of every three people in the country. This information has been revealed in the sero survey of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). According to the sero survey, there are still about 40 crore or 33 percent such people in the country, in whom the antibodies of corona have not been found and these people are at risk of being caught by the coronavirus. In view of this, people have been appealed to avoid unnecessary travel and strictly follow the rules of prevention from Corona.
The fourth sero survey conducted in 70 districts in June-July came to the fore
ICMR Director-General Dr. Balram Bhargava said that the fourth National Sero Survey was conducted in June-July in 70 districts and children of 6-17 years were also included in them. The antibody of the corona was found in 67.6 percent of the people. This means that two-thirds of the country's population has been infected with SARS-CoV-2.
Earlier, 24.1 percent in the third sero survey conducted in December-January, 7.1 percent in the second sero survey conducted in August-September last year and only 0.7 percent in the first sero survey conducted in May-June last year. Antibody was found.
Country on the threshold of herd immunity
It is generally believed that after the formation of antibodies in 70 percent of the population, society develops herd immunity against infection. In this way, a situation of herd immunity has arisen in India, but in view of the large population of the country, ICMR is avoiding claiming it. Dr. Bhargava said that despite the formation of antibodies in two-thirds of the population, there are large numbers that can easily become victims of corona infection and can also cause the third waves. The number of such people is about 40 crores.
The importance of the vaccine proved again
The sero survey has also proved the importance of vaccination against the coronavirus. According to this, antibodies against corona were found in only 62.3 percent of those who did not take the vaccine. Whereas antibodies were found in 81 percent of those who took one dose of the vaccine and 89.9 percent of those who took both doses.
Benefits of prioritizing
Better results of vaccinating health workers on a priority basis were also seen in the sero survey. Antibody was found in 85 percent of the health workers who first took the vaccine, while the fact is that 10.5 percent of them did not take a single dose and 13.4 percent took only one dose. 76.1 percent of health workers have taken both doses.
Emphasis on speeding up vaccination
Dr. VK Pal, member of NITI Aayog and head of the Task Force on Corona Vaccination, said that the report of the sero survey has become clear that apart from an infection, herd immunity against coronavirus can also be developed through vaccination. Assuring the pace of vaccination to accelerate in the coming days, he said that till everyone gets the vaccine, everyone will have to stop the third wave through proper treatment of corona.
How many people did sero survey
The fourth sero survey was also conducted in 70 districts of the same 21 states where all the three sero surveys were conducted earlier. From each of these districts, 40-40 people were selected from 10 villages or wards. In this way, antibodies were tested in the blood samples of 400 people from each of the districts. But for the first time children between the ages of six and nine were also included in it. A total of 28,975 people and 7,252 health workers were included in the survey.
Advice to states to conduct sero survey at local level
Dr. Bhargava said that the status of infection is different in the districts of different states. That is why states have been advised to conduct sero survey at the local level to find out the exact status of corona infection and make a strategy to control it accordingly. He said that the states have been asked to make corona tests mandatory for patients with cold and flu in all district hospitals so that the corona infection can be digested in the beginning.
