Amid the threat of the new variant C.1.2, found in South Africa and spreading to many other countries, the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday clarified that no case of this variant has been found in the country yet.This variant is said to be highly contagious and is also evading the immune system created by the vaccine.The ministry has also said that the cases of breakthrough infection of the virus in the country are also within the expected number.
No case of C.1.2 variant in India
According to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD), this potential variant of interest (C.1.2) was first detected in South Africa in May this year.The government said that no case of the C.1.2 variant has been found in India so far.The concerned institutions and departments have been alerted in this regard and are being monitored.
WHO said- 100 cases of C.1.2 variant found worldwide
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 100 cases have been found worldwide so far.Cases have been found in China, Congo, Mauritius, Britain, New Zealand, Portugal and Switzerland.
The cases of breakthrough infection of the virus in the country are also within the expected number
Meanwhile, the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Consortium (INSACAG), an organization of 28 laboratories set up in the country to detect variants of corona infection, has said that the cases of breakthrough infection are within the expected number.When a person becomes infected with the coronavirus even after vaccination, it is called a case of breakthrough infection.
A total of 856 cases linked to the delta variant were found.
Insacag said that a total of 856 cases of delta variants and other related variants have been found in the country.Cases of AY.12 found in Israel are also not found in the country.The organization says that the vaccine is effective against all these variants and prevents the disease from becoming serious.
In the last 24 hours, more than 41 thousand new cases were found in the country
According to the Ministry of Health, during the last 24 hours, 41965 new cases of corona infection have been found in the country and 460 deaths have occurred.During this, there has also been an increase of more than seven and a half thousand inactive cases and currently, active cases have increased to 3,78,181 which is 1.15 percent of the total cases.The daily infection rate has once again come down to below three percent and the weekly infection rate has also remained below three percent for the last 66 days.
