Let us inform you that the Food Corporation of India had taken the decision to postpone the purchase of paddy for 10 days on the basis that due to excess rainfall in many states of North India including Haryana-Punjab, the moisture content in paddy may increase. The corporation's argument was also that due to rain, there has been a delay in the ripening of paddy.Describing this decision in the interest of the farmers, the corporation had also said that the farmers should dry the paddy with high moisture in the mandis first.During this, the corporation had also ordered the procurement agencies to prepare their own machinery.
After this order, there was anger among the farmers of Punjab and Haryana who had brought their paddy to the mandis due to the announcement of government procurement from October 1.After meeting the Union Minister of State, Chief Minister Manohar Lal said that farmers will not face any problem in the mandis.Elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure the procurement of paddy in the mandis.
There was also a discussion on giving relaxation in the moisture of paddy
A demand was also made from Haryana's side before the Union Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs Ashwini Choubey that this time the moisture-related relaxation of paddy should be given in the purchase of paddy. So far, the Food Corporation of India accepts moisture up to 17 percent while purchasing paddy, but the farmers of Haryana want a discount of some percent.Union Minister of State Ashwini Choubey has given a decision to ensure the purchase of paddy on the old criteria for the time being.
