Important agreement between India-Nepal, Kathmandu will be connected with railways of major cities

This 136 km long track is being seen by India in the direction of reducing the influence of China in Nepal. The detailed project report will be prepared in the next 18 months.

Kathmandu. India and Nepal (India-Nepal Relation) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 7 October to prepare a report on a project connecting Raxaul to Kathmandu by rail. An expenditure of Rs 237 billion is proposed on this project.

With the completion of broad-gauge, Nepal's capital Kathmandu will be directly connected to major cities of India. With the construction of this track, goods from India and any other country can be transported directly to Kathmandu. At present, foreign shipments reach Birgunj from where goods are sent to the whole of Nepal.

India has proposed four railway lines to connect Raxaul and Kathmandu. The project will be completed after five years of getting the land clearance from Nepal. This 136 km long track is being seen by India in the direction of reducing the influence of China in Nepal. The detailed project report will be prepared in the next 18 months. The Government of India will bear the cost of preparing it.

Passenger trains will be started soon between 34 km long Jaynagar to Kurtha section. For this, the standard operating procedure has been signed. The development of the Jogbani-Biratnagar rail section along with the Jaynagar-Janakpur-Kurtha-Bijalpura-Bardibas railway line has also been discussed. According to reports, the 17 km long Kurtha to Bijalpura track is also about to be completed soon.

Apart from this, both the countries discussed the ongoing works of Jaynagar-Bijalpura-Bardibas and Jogbani-Biratnagar broad gauge railway lines being developed with the Government of India grant. The railway line from Jayanagar (India) to Kurtha (Nepal) is 34 km long. Both India and Nepal will benefit lakhs of citizens from both the countries of India and Nepal by the operation of trains on this railway line.
