Gurkha is directed by Sanjay Puran Singh, while the story is written by Neeraj Yadav and Sanjay. The film is being produced by Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma. This is Akshay's third film with Anand after Atrangi Re and Raksha Bandhan.Dedicated to the celebration of 75 years of Gorkha independence.
Interestingly, Gurkhas are also derived from the 1971 Indo-Pak war, in which Major General Cardozo took part. One of his legs was injured after falling on a land mine.Due to the non-availability of medical facilities on the spot, he had cut his leg with his khukri.Major General Ian Cardozo, 84, is a decorated military officer who was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM).He is the first such army officer in the country, who despite being crippled in war, led a brigade and battalion.Due to the difficulty in taking names, he was called by the name of cartridge Sahib in the Gorkha regiment.
