Sumati of Jharkhand had made a mark in 2019 by scoring three goals in the Indian football team Under-15.
AFC Women Asia Cup: Sumati Kumari, a football player from the insurgency-affected district of Jharkhand's Gumla, has been selected in the Indian team for the AFC Women's Asia Cup. Out of 27 players who attended the camp in Kochi last month, 23 members have been selected for the team. The AFC Women's Asia Cup will be held from January 20 to February 6 at three venues in Maharashtra. Sumati, who plays from the forward position, was included in the runner-up Indian team in the Under-19 SAIF Championship held in Dhaka last month. Apart from this, Sumati has represented India in friendly football matches held in Uzbekistan in March-April last year.
Sumati is an intermediate student
Sumati's father Firu Oraon, a resident of Londra village of Bharani block of Gumla district, is a farmer by profession. His mother Shaniyaro Devi is a housewife. Sumati is the youngest of six siblings. Sumati, who was interested in football since childhood, started her game from the village. Sumati is a student of Inter-Arts in Sant Patrik Plus Two School. In 2019, Sumati made a mark by scoring three goals in the Indian football team Under-15. Apart from this, she is included in the Indian football team's prospects for the FIFA U-17 Women's Football World Cup.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren has congratulated Sumati. Significantly, Sumati was brought from home for training in Morhabadi on the instructions of the Chief Minister. Sumati comes from a poor family of Gumla. From May 2020 onwards, it is being looked after entirely by the state government.
