A new unit of Forensic Science Laboratory has been almost ready in Patna at a cost of Rs.4 crore 35 lakh. Under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme in the state, a special DNA unit is being made in the new unit of Forensic Lab in Patna from the Nirbhaya Fund.
The role of scientific evidence is very important in the speedy disposal of criminal cases and punishment of criminals. In view of this, seven forensic vans have also been arranged in the state along with Regional Forensic Lab (Forensic Lab) to collect evidence by visiting the spot. To strengthen them in every way, 218 posts from senior scientific assistant, laboratory carrier, and clerk to the driver have been created. Approval of these posts has been received from the level of the Home Department. Along with this, the roster of 189 posts has also been cleared. The proposal has been sent to the Crime Research Unit to clear the roster of the remaining 29 posts.
These posts will be reinstatedAfter the roster of all the posts is cleared, the process of reinstatement on them is likely to start by March. This includes the posts of nine directors, 10 deputy directors, 29 assistant directors, 58 senior scientific assistants, 10 upper-class clerks, 20 lower-class clerks, 18 drivers, 29 laboratory carriers, and 31 viscera or office attendants. With the help of this personnel, the activities of the Regional Forensic Lab, as well as the Forensic Van, will be mobilized. The most important in this is to completely strengthen the mobile forensic laboratory so that in case of any incident, the entire forensic team can reach there immediately and collect the evidence. For this, restoration of vehicles, equipment as well as necessary personnel is being done especially.
The forensic mobile van will remain here and thereAt present, arrangements for forensic mobile vans have been made in Patna, two in Muzaffarpur, two in Bhagalpur, and one in Purnia. At the same time, apart from Patna, Regional Forensic Science Laboratory and Joint Building have also been ready in Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur. One crore 83 lakh rupees releasedSix crores 12 lakh rupees will be spent on this, in which one crore 83 lakh rupees have been released under the first installment. Due to its fully functioning, with the help of DNA tests in many heinous crimes including murder and rape, the real culprit will be easily caught. Currently, in some cases, the sample has to be sent to Hyderabad or Delhi for DNA testing, which takes a lot of time.
