5G in India: Minister of State for Telecom, Devu Singh Chouhan has said that the government is expecting to start indigenously developing 5G services by August this year. He said this in his address at the 'World Summit of Information Society' (WSIS) 2022. The event was organized by the United Nations body International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
Chouhan also said that the government is starting a research and development fund to finance the development of telecom technology. He was quoted as saying in a statement, India has developed an indigenous 4G infrastructure in which the 4G core and radio access network were designed and tested. This helps the operators to choose any vendor and brings down the cost.
Indigenous 5G infrastructure is also expected to be commissioned by August 2022. Information technology company TCS and public sector C.D.T (Centre for Development of Telematics) are engaged in developing 5G technology, which is likely to be deployed on the BSNL network.
