The media rights auction is on for five years of IPL.

The BCCI is set to earn Rs 44075 crore so far through the TV and digital media rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This is only the income from package A and package B. Bids for both have been finalised. While the bidding for Package C and Package D is still going on, which is expected to be completed by Tuesday. Once these bids are completed, IPL will become one of the richest leagues in the sports world.

Auction of third package continues

According to the news of news agency PTI, so far Package A (TV rights of the Indian subcontinent) for 410 IPL matches between 2023 and 2027 has been sold for Rs 23575 crore i.e. Rs 57.5 crore per match. At the same time, the digital rights for the Indian subcontinent have been sold for Rs 50 crore per match, which was bought by one of the bidding parties after facing the challenge of getting Package A. Rs 20500 crore has been received from package B.

Earning more than 44000 from only two packages

This means that after selling two packages, Rs 44075 crore has come in the bag of BCCI. By the time the auction stopped on the second day, a bid of Rs 2000 crore had been made for Package C. Now on the third day, the bidding will be done from this onwards. The board has so far earned Rs 46000 crore, which is two and a half times more than the Rs 16347 crore received in 2018.

The base price for TV rights was Rs 49 crore

The base price for TV rights was Rs 49 crore and for digital rights was Rs 33 crore. A BCCI source said that we are approaching $5.5 billion. Getting Rs 50 crore per match for digital rights is a big deal. The auction ended today at 6 pm and we are currently on package C which includes the 'non-exclusive' digital rights of 98 matches for five years. Next will come Package D which is for foreign TV and digital rights.
