NITI Aayog CEO: Former Drinking Water and Sanitation Secretary Parameswaran Iyer was on Friday appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog. He will replace Amitabh Kant. Amitabh Kant is retiring on 30 June. Parameswaran Iyer had resigned from his post in July last year.

A government order issued on Friday said that Iyer, a 1981-batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre and well-known sanitation expert, will be suspended for two years or till further orders, after Amitabh Kant retires on June 30. , whichever is earlier, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog.

The Personnel Ministry order states that Parameswaran Iyer has been appointed on the same terms and conditions as were applicable to Amitabh Kant. Parameswaran Iyer took voluntary retirement from the Indian Administrative Service in the year 2009. He has also served as Senior Rural Water Sanitation Specialist in the United Nations.

Iyer is the third CEO of the government's think tank

Iyer is the third CEO of the government's think tank. He has also authored a book titled 'Method in the Madness-Insights from My Career as an Insider-Outsider-Insider'. Kant, the outgoing CEO of NITI Aayog, played a key role in policy formulation of NITI Aayog with focus on Digital India, Asset Monetization, Disinvestment, Aspirational District Programs and Electric Vehicles.

Amitabh Kant got an extension twice

He was appointed as the CEO of NITI Aayog on February 17, 2016 for a fixed tenure of two years. Amitabh Kant was later given an extension till June 30, 2019. His term was extended for two years till June 2021, and then was given another year's extension till June 30 this year.
