Panagarh: In many districts, including Purulia, the southern region of West Bengal, nine people died due to lightning on the day of the Rath Yatra. Many people got injured. Someone died while taking a bath in the sea of ​​Digha, while someone died while catching a bus. Weeds spread in these areas. In relation to the incident, it has been learned that two tourists died due to lightning while taking a bath on the beach in Digha. The deceased have been identified as Shugam Pal (24) and Shubhajit Pal (25). He was a resident of North 24 Parganas. On Friday, he went to take a bath with his friends. Then the lightning struck. Both were admitted to a hospital in Digha in critical condition. But the doctors there declared him brought dead.

Five women including a teenager died in Purulia

In the same Purulia district, a total of five women, including a teenager, died due to lightning on Friday in different police stations. 3 more women have been injured in the incident. An elderly woman, who had gone to catch a bus at the Tokaria bus stand of Barabazar police station in the district, died due to lightning. Two were injured. The deceased has been identified as 62-year-old Mangli Murmu. The injured were identified as 52-year-old Bharti Tudu and 55-year-old Sundari Soren. Both the injured are being treated at Purulia Sadar Hospital. All of them are residents of Kutni village under Barabazar police station.

Many lives were lost due to lightning with thunderstorm

At the same time, while working in the field in Bolia village of Adasha police station area, a woman named Chandana Mahato (55) died after being struck by lightning during a thunderstorm. Along with this, Ira Kumar (35) died due to lightning while bathing in the pond in Chatrani village of Kotshila police station area. In Mohanpur village of the same police station area, 14-year-old Moushumi Mahadani died due to lightning while returning after taking a bath. At the same time, an old woman named Jyotsna Gorai (60) died due to lightning in Khairipihira village of Huda police station area.

School students and shepherds also came in the grip of lightning

Meanwhile, in Shalbani too, two people died due to lightning in two different areas on the day of Rath Yatra. Khandu Hansda, a ten-year-old boy of Baharkalberia village of Karnagarh Gram Panchayat of Shalbani, had gone to the cow grazing farm. She is a fifth grade student in a local primary school. While grazing cattle in the field, he got electrocuted. Later the villagers came to know and his body was recovered. At the same time, housewife Amena Bibi (40) died in Kalsibhanga village of Shalbani. She was also in the field during the rain. There he died. Two goats also died due to lightning here.
