Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that Narvekar is the youngest ever Speaker of the Legislative Assembly in the country. His father-in-law and NCP leader Ramraje Naik is the chairman of the Legislative Council. The Eknath Shinde-led government will face a trust vote in the 288-member assembly on Monday.

Demand for disqualification of 16 Shiv Sena MLAs

The Eknath Shinde faction has demanded the disqualification of 16 Shiv Sena MLAs, including Aaditya Thackeray. Bharat Gogawale of Shinde faction has handed over a letter to the new speaker, Rahul Narvekar. It states that 16 MLAs have violated the whip, so their membership should be cancelled. However, Shiv Sena (Thackeray side) has also demanded action against the rebel MLAs of Shinde faction. Shiv Sena Chief Whip Sunil Prabhu has written a letter to Narvekar demanding action against 39 MLAs.
