This step is being taken with the aim of improving education in engineering colleges and polytechnic institutions from the state government level. At present, the number of seats in Government Engineering Colleges is 9,150. Similarly, the number of seats in some selected polytechnic institutes is also being increased. For example, approval has been given to increase 60-60 seats in the subject of food processing. At present, the total number of seats in 44 Government Polytechnic Institutes is 11200.
