The headquarters are strict regarding illegal sand mining in Bhagalpur and Banka.

Despite the ban, the police headquarters are strict on illegal sand mining going on in Bhagalpur and Banka districts. The headquarters had sought data from all the districts of the state including Bhagalpur and Banka, from the action taken against illegal sand mining to arrests, seizures, seized vehicles and chargesheets and the cases under investigation for the last one and a half years.

Bhagalpur and Banka police figures

The figures have been prepared by Bhagalpur and Banka Police and sent to the Police Headquarters. The police of both the districts are very ready to take action including registering the cases. But the police is proving behind in executing such cases and chargesheeting.

Police behind in chargesheet after completing research

According to the data received, a total of 483 cases have been registered in Banka Police District from 1st January 2021 to 30th June 2022 i.e. in one and a half years while campaigning against illegal sand mining. In these, a total of 1214 sand mafia have been arrested. After completing the investigation of these cases, the police is behind in filing the charge sheet. In the last one and a half years, chargesheets have been filed in only 195 cases while 278 cases are still under investigation.

Chargesheet only in 12 percent cases

Taking action against illegal sand mining by Bhagalpur District Police, a total of 184 cases have been registered in the last one and a half years. Out of these, 49 sand mafias have been arrested. In illegal mining cases, 58 thousand 320 cft sand including two poklane, 5 highway, 254 tractor, 8 truck and 6 other vehicles have been seized by the police. But after completing the investigation and executing the chargesheet, the Bhagalpur Police has been able to file the chargesheet only in 12 percent of the cases. In the last one and a half years, Bhagalpur Police has filed chargesheets in just 20 cases. The investigation of 146 case is still going on.

Stopping illegal sand mining is also the priority of the police. The guidelines given by the Police Headquarters will be strictly followed. All the officials have been directed for timely execution of all types of cases including sand.
