Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday apologized to President Draupadi Murmu for his remarks in which he addressed the President as the wife of the nation.
Rashtrapatni Remark Row: On Thursday, there was a tremendous political ruckus inside the Parliament on the statement of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha regarding President Draupadi Murmu. There was a lot of uproar and debate in both the houses of Parliament regarding this. At the same time, on Friday, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury apologized to President Draupadi Murmu for his remarks in which he addressed the President as the wife of the nation.
Adhir Ranjan wrote a letter to the President
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury wrote a letter to the President saying that he accidentally used a wrong word for the post of President. The Congress leader said that I assure you that this was due to slip of tongue. I apologize and urge you to accept it.
Time sought for meeting with the President
The senior Congress leader has sought an appointment with the President on Saturday regarding the same subject. It is noteworthy that a big political controversy had arisen on Thursday over Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's address as the President's wife. The BJP and the Congress launched scathing attacks on each other and the proceedings of both the Houses of Parliament were also disrupted. Terming the Congress as anti-tribal, anti-women and anti-poor, the BJP had said that the chief of the main opposition party, Sonia Gandhi, should apologise.
Congress had made this claim
The Congress had claimed that in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister Smriti Irani and several BJP leaders behaved disrespectfully with Sonia Gandhi, for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologize. On the other hand, Chowdhary had clarified that by mistake a word came out of his mouth, which BJP is making sesame palm. Targeting the BJP, he said that he will meet President Murmu and apologize. But, we cannot apologize to these hypocrites. The BJP created a huge ruckus in both the houses of Parliament over Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's remarks about the national wife and the Congress dealing with Sonia Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, due to which proceedings were disrupted on Friday.
