The CBI on Monday arrested three senior railway officials for allegedly tampering with the freight rake in the Hajipur-headquartered East Central Railway (ECR).

The CBI on Monday arrested three senior railway officials for allegedly tampering with the freight rake in the Hajipur-headquartered East Central Railway (ECR). The CBI team first arrested Sanjay Kumar (1996 batch), posted as Chief Goods Transport Manager in Hajipur ECR, taking a bribe of six lakh rupees. On his information, Senior DOM Rupesh Kumar (2011 batch) posted in Samastipur division and Senior DOM Sachin Mishra (2011 batch) posted in Sonpur have also been arrested. Of these, Sachin Mishra was taken into custody on Sunday itself. Along with the three officers, two private company employees have also been arrested from Kolkata. The CBI has officially informed about this. The three arrested officers were produced in the special CBI court late on Monday evening, from where they were sent to jail.

CBI conducted raids on Sunday and Monday

On Sunday and Monday, the CBI team conducted raids in this regard at 16 places including Patna, Hajipur, Samastipur and Kolkata. The arrested officers are accused of taking regular bribes from ECR vendors for preferential allotment of railway rakes for loading of goods.

Close relative of an MP from Bihar

The CBI has also arrested Naval Ladha of Kolkata-based Abha Agro Industries Pvt Ltd and a person named Manoj Kumar Saha. During the search at his residence Rs 46.50 lakh in cash was recovered. The arrested railway officer Sanjay Kumar is said to be a close relative of a Bihar MP. One of his brothers is posted as DSP in Bihar Police in Hajipur.
