India won gold in table tennis: The Indian table tennis teamย created history by winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday and inspired the entire nation to watch the sport anonymously. Indian table tennis team has also won the gold medal by performing amazingly. Harmeet Desai has done this for India. They won the match in straight games and India defeated Singapore 3โ€“1 in the final. This is India's fifth gold medal.

The Indian lawn ball team created history by winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games on Tuesday and inspired the entire nation to watch the sport anonymously. India's quartet of Lovely Choubey (Lead), Pinky (Second), Nayanmoni Saikia (Third) and Roopa Rani Tirkey (Slip) beat South Africa 17-10 in the final. India had landed for the first time in the women's four event of the competition.

This is India's fourth gold medal

This is the fourth gold of the Indian team and also the first gold in any event other than weightlifting. At one point, the Indian team was ahead 8-2 but Thabelo Muhango (lead), Brigitte Kalitz (second), Esmi Kruger (third) and Johanna Snemann (skip) leveled at 8-8. The Indian players maintained their composure and won the last three rounds. Earlier in the women's triple, the Indian team defeated New Zealand 15-11 in the Commonwealth opening match.

Jharkhand's two players in the team

India's trio of Tania Choudhary (Lead), Pinky (Second) and Roopa Rani Tirkey (Skip) proved to be far better than the Kiwi team of Nicole Tommy (Lead), Tayla Bruce (Second) and Val Smith (Skip). India were leading 6-2 after the sixth end, but New Zealand leveled the score after the ninth end. However, the Indian team did not give a chance to their rival team to come back and finally managed to win the match. India will next face England in this event while they will take on Niue on Wednesday.

India hopes for more medals

Meanwhile, India's women's pair suffered an 18-9 loss to New Zealand. The Indian team consisted of Lovely Choubey (Lead) and Nayanmoni Saikia (Skip). The Indian team will have to beat Niue and South Africa on Wednesday to make it to the quarter-finals.

The entire nation, including President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, congratulated the Indian team for winning the historic gold medal in the Lawn Balls Women's Four event of the Commonwealth Games. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has congratulated the lawn ball team. He tweeted, Many congratulations and best wishes to both the players of Jharkhand including Team India for this historic moment. Sports Minister Anurag Thakur tweeted, Historic gold for India in the Lawn Balls event of the Commonwealth Games. The Women's Four team defeated South Africa to give the country its first gold medal in this game.
