Former West Bengal Education and Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee and his close aide Arpita Mukherjee, who were caught by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the teacher recruitment scam through the School Service Commission (SSC), were on Friday located in the Bankshall Court under tight security. Presented in special ED court. After hearing the arguments of all the parties, the court directed to send Parth and Arpita to jail custody for 14 days. The next production of both will now take place on August 18.

Parth's lawyer said - my client should be released

According to court sources, during the hearing of the case, Partha Chatterjee's lawyer said, 'My client is ill. In the report that came after the checkup at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, there is mention of him getting medical tests done from time to time. He is not related to Arpita. The documents found from Arpita's house are fake. If necessary, my client is also ready to leave the MLA post. They should be released on bail under any circumstances.

Arpita's lawyer said- my client should get IP prisoner status

Here, Arpita Mukherjee's lawyer said, 'My client should get the status of a VIP prisoner. They should be given extra security. If necessary for investigation, he should be sent to jail custody for at least 10 days. Court sources claim that during the hearing of the case, the ED's advocate strongly opposed the bail applications of both the accused.


ED's lawyer gave this argument in court

ED's lawyer said that Parth is a heavyweight leader, influential. If he gets bail, the investigation in the case may get affected. Apart from SSC, documents related to Group D, Upper Primary have also been found from Parth's house. Since the investigation of the case is going on now, both the accused should be sent to 14 days jail custody. The ED officers should be allowed to interrogate both the accused by going to the jail also.

Court sends Parth, Arpita to jail for 14 days

After hearing the arguments of all the concerned parties, the special ED court directed to send Partha Chatterjee and Arpita Mukherjee to jail for 14 days. After this, both the accused were sent to the Presidency Jail under tight security.
