HIV infection is no longer a curse for motherhood. Provided the women know that they are HIV infected. In Patna district in 2021-22, out of a total of 272 HIV infected women, 244 have given birth to healthy children. This has become possible because HIV test has been made mandatory during pregnancy. The treatment was started as soon as the positive report of the pregnant came in this test. Due to this, this infection did not affect the child growing in the womb.

Up to 90% of babies are born healthy

Along with this, the facilities for investigation and treatment have increased at the government level. As a result up to 90% babies are born healthy. According to the Society and Prevention of Patient to Child Transmission (PPTCT), timely treatment of HIV during pregnancy can save the fetus from the dangers of life-threatening infection. At the same time, Manoj Kumar Sinha, joint director of the society, told that all women must get tested for HIV in pregnancy. When the test is positive, women should start taking the medicine from the third month of pregnancy. With this, the baby can be protected from infection by 90 to 95%. By 18 months the baby needs to be in touch with the doctor.

getting negative report of newborn

In Patna district, in 2020-21, more than 4500 people have been tested for HIV and counseling has been done. These include men and women and children. Of these women, about 245 pregnant gave birth to children. At the same time, the health department started the treatment of women whose report came positive, due to which the HIV report of all the newborn has come negative. He told that under this whole process, special care is taken in the Anti Retroviral Treatment (ART) Center as soon as the HIV infected woman becomes pregnant. After this he is specifically instructed to take the medicine. Due to this the disease has not affected the fetus. After completion of time, HIV infected pregnant is referred to PMCH, IGIMS, NMCH Medical College Hospital for safe delivery.
