The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of insulting "women and sportspersons" by allegedly targeting Commonwealth Games 2022 medalist Divya Kakran. BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla said that AAP's social media team trolled Kakran and its leader Saurabh Bharadwaj asked him to show the certificate in an "outrageous manner".
Have a history of insulting AAP, be it soldiers or sportspersons: Poonawalla
It is worth noting that Divya Kakran, who won a bronze medal in wrestling for India in the Commonwealth Games 2022, had complained about not getting any financial assistance from the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal-led government. Poonawalla said in a press conference that Kakran then showed the certificate to represent Delhi. He alleged that AAP has a history of insulting those who respect the national flag, be it soldiers or sportspersons. He asked Kejriwal to sack Bhardwaj from all party posts.
Political parties distribute 'Revdi' to everyone before elections
BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla also criticized Kejriwal for hitting out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for repeatedly criticizing the 'Rewari culture'. He said that Modi did not take anyone's name but AAP leaders started defending it due to guilt. He said that the Modi government is empowering various underprivileged sections of the society with targeted schemes while other political parties distribute 'Revdi' to everyone before the elections and that too regardless of whether such schemes can be implemented or not.
