Bus full of Vaishno Devi pilgrims crashes, one child died, 16 injured

The bus was on its way to Delhi from Katra, the base camp for Vaishno Devi pilgrimage.

A five-year-old child was killed and 16 injured when a bus carrying pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi crashed in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

How the accident happened

Officials gave information and told that the bus was going to Delhi from Katra, the base camp of Vaishno Devi pilgrimage. Officials said the bus driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned after hitting another bus in Kadamal. In this incident a child named Shubham Kumar (5) resident of Uttar Pradesh (UP) died. He said 16 passengers, including four women and three children, were injured and taken to a nearby hospital.

Four of the injured were later shifted to Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu for better treatment, the official said. Officials said the injured included seven people from Uttar Pradesh, four from Haryana, three from Jammu and Kashmir and two from Delhi.

Eight killed as vehicle falls into a ditch in Kishtwar

Another accident was reported from Jammu and Kashmir today, in which at least eight people were killed and three others were injured when an SUV skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Kishtwar. Officials told that the sport utility vehicle was going from Chingam to Chatru with passengers when the vehicle met with an accident near Bonda village at around 3.15 pm. Police, Rashtriya Rifles and rescue teams of local residents immediately swung into action after the SUV fell into a ditch from a mountainous road, he said. According to officials, five people died on the spot and three others succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital.
