Ganeshotsav was started amidst tight security at Hubli Idgah ground in North Karnataka. Right-wing leader and Shri Ram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik offered prayers to the idol of Lord Ganesha amidst Vedic chants. Photos of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Hindutva ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar were also seen in the pandal. The idol of Lord Ganesha is installed here for three days.

High Court had given permission to organize Ganesh Chaturthi festival at Idgah ground

The High Court, in a late night hearing on Tuesday, upheld the order of Hubli Dharwad Municipal Commissioner, which had granted permission to hold Ganesh Chaturthi festival at the city's Idgah ground. In contrast, at least 10 contingents of Karnataka State Reserve Police and senior police officers have been deployed at Chamarajpet Idgah ground to ensure security and not to allow anyone from outside till Ganeshotsav.

A senior police officer, on the condition of anonymity, said, “We will not allow anyone to disturb the peace. The order given by the Supreme Court regarding Chamarajpet (Bengaluru) will be strictly followed. The High Court had on Tuesday allowed Ganesh Puja to be performed and as per its guidelines installed the idol of Lord Ganesha at Hubli Idgah. A member of the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti said, "Bhajans will be performed in the pandal (in Hubballi) for the next three days.
