Sugarcane Industries Minister Karthik Kumar, accused in a kidnapping case, resigned from the State Council of Ministers late on Wednesday evening.

Patna. Sugarcane Industries Minister Karthik Kumar, accused in a kidnapping case, resigned from the State Council of Ministers late on Wednesday evening. Governor Fagu Chauhan accepted the resignation on the recommendation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. RJD's MLC Karthik Kumar was sworn in as a cabinet minister in the Grand Alliance government on 16 August. His department was changed a day before. Karthik was made the first law minister. His portfolio was changed late on Tuesday night, he was made sugarcane industries minister and Shamim Ahmed was made law minister.

The notification was made public on Wednesday morning. The Cabinet Secretariat Department has issued a notification saying that Karthik Kumar is no longer a member of the State Council of Ministers. Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Alok Kumar Mehta has been given additional charge of Sugarcane Industries Department. From the day he was made a minister, Karthik was surrounded by controversies. On the fifteenth day he had to get out of the government.

Hearing in kidnapping case to be held today

In the year 2014, the trial court of Danapur had issued an arrest warrant against Karthik Kumar in the case of kidnapping of a person named Rajiv Flashback Ranjan in Bihta. He was to appear in the court on the day he took oath as the minister (on 16 August). However, later the court stayed the proceedings against him till September 1.

Court of CJM took cognizance

His lawyer says that his name was added 10 months after the FIR was registered, on which the CJM's court took cognizance. After this, Karthik Kumar filed a petition for anticipatory bail before the District Sessions Judge of Patna. The court sent it to the ADJ court of Danapur for hearing. While hearing the ADJ court, the next action was stayed till September 1. Now the hearing of this case is to be held on September 1.

The BJP had demanded his resignation by making the kidnapping case pending against Karthik Kumar an issue. Karthik Kumar has been a trusted lieutenant of jailed Mokama former MLA Anant Kumar Singh. The RJD fielded him in the Patna Legislative Council election, in which he won. He is also known as Master Sahib.
