Central Vista: The central government is preparing to change the name of Rajpath. The central government is going to change its name to Duty Path. According to information received from sources, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has also convened a special meeting on September 7 regarding the renaming of Rajpath and Central Vista Lawn to 'Durtavypath'. In this meeting, the proposal will be placed before the council.

The entire route and area from Netaji's statue at India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhavan will be known as Duty Path. Let us tell you, during the British period, Rajpath was called Kingsway. Later it came to be called Rajpath. At the same time, according to media reports and information received from sources, on September 8, PM Modi will inaugurate the entire section from Vijay Chowk to India Gate, which is being built under the Central Vista Redevelopment Project.

What is Central Vista Avenue: Actually Central Vista Avenue is a 1.8 km long stretch of Rajpath and has lawns along its sides between India Gate and Vijay Chowk. The work included four pedestrian underpasses, eight amenity blocks, relaying of the Rajpath, construction of paths along and into lawns, improvement of canals and 16 permanent bridges over it, and underground utility ducts for power and other cables. 

Kingsway was before Rajpath: It is worth mentioning that the old name of the Rajpath which we know today was Kingsway. During the British era, the officers of the British Raj used to move through this route. At the same time, after independence, the Government of India changed the name of Kingsway to Rajpath. In 1955, the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru changed the name of Kingsway to Rajpath.
