'India supports efforts to bring back Rohingyas to Myanmar', Foreign Secretary's statement

Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said on Tuesday that India supports all efforts towards the return of Rohingyas to Myanmar.

Rohingyas to Myanmar: Addressing a special media briefing on Bangladesh Prime Minister's visit to India, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra on Tuesday said India supports all efforts towards the return of Rohingyas to Myanmar and Bangladesh in providing them shelter. Appreciates the role of He also told that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina have discussed water, trade, economic ties and regional and global issues. In response to questions on the Rohingya issue, he told the media that India has sent relief materials to Bangladesh for Rohingya refugees from Myanmar.

'Bangladesh's role on Rohingya issue appreciated everywhere'

Briefing the media, he said that we are aware of the Rohingya issue. Bangladesh's role in giving them shelter is being appreciated everywhere. Also told that we have also provided financial assistance on this issue and Government of India will give whatever assistance is needed in future. He said India supports all efforts that ensure safe, stable and speedy repatriation to Myanmar.

'Bangladesh government is committed to the protection of minorities'

Responding to the question of minorities present in Bangladesh, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said that there are continuous talks between the two countries and the Government of Bangladesh has said privately and publicly that they are committed to the protection of minorities. Kwatra said that during the visit, an MoU was signed between Prasar Bharati and Bangladesh Television (BTV) on cooperation in broadcasting.

Seven agreements signed during Sheikh Hasina's visit to India

He said that an MoU was signed between India and Bangladesh in 2019 regarding Doordarshan and Bangladesh TV. This MoU is working satisfactorily between the two countries and it has been extended for three years. Seven MoUs have been signed between India and Bangladesh during Sheikh Hasina's visit to India.
