India's first intranasal corona vaccine has been approved as a primary vaccination for people above 18 years of age.

Bharat Biotech and DCGI: India's first intranasal corona vaccine has been approved to be given as a primary vaccination for people above 18 years of age. India's first intranasal corona vaccine has been manufactured by Bharat Biotech Company. This vaccine received DCGI approval for primary vaccination on Tuesday, 6 September. Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has appreciated this achievement.

Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted and wrote that this is a big step in India's fight against Corona. He further wrote that Bharat Biotech's ChAd36-SARS-CoV-S COVID-19 (Chimpanzee Adenovirus Vectored) Recombinant Nasal Vaccine has been approved by @CDSCO_INDIA_INF for COVID-19 in the age group of 18+ for use in an emergency only. 


'Two separate trials of intranasal corona vaccine'

Let us inform that last month Bharat Biotech completed Phase III and booster dose trials for Intranasal Corona Vaccine. Bharat Biotech had said that the company has conducted two separate trials for the intranasal corona vaccine. The first trial as a primary dose and the second as a booster dose. The company said that the data from Phase III trials has been submitted to the national regulatory authorities for approval.

'Easy to deploy in large-scale vaccination campaigns'

Bharat Biotech's Joint Managing Director Suchitra K Ella had said that if this vaccine is approved, the intranasal vaccine will make it easier to deploy in large-scale vaccination campaigns, with an easy administration and delivery tool. Now DCGI (Drugs Controller General of India) has approved India's first intranasal corona vaccine.
