According to scientists, the study is still in its early stages, but a lot will change if it lives up to the expectations.

The vaccine has helped the world a lot in the fight against COVID-19. However, the new variants create the need for different boosters to fight them. But now scientists have discovered an antibody, which is called SP1-77. It neutralizes all known forms of COVID-19.

Researchers from Boston Children's Hospital and Duke University discovered this together during this study on rats. The findings of this discovery have been published in the journal Science Immunology. According to it, "SP1-77 binds to the spike protein at a site that has not yet been mutated and neutralizes these variants by a novel mechanism."

"These properties may contribute to its widespread and potent activity," study co-author Tomas Kirchhausen, PhD, said in a statement. One report said the antibodies began to form when researchers modified a mouse model that was originally designed to search for antibodies that broadly neutralize HIV.

Mice have built-in human immune systems that mimic the way our immune systems better develop antibodies when we are exposed to a pathogen. Antibodies, however, work a little differently than other antibodies used to make vaccines. This study was done on rats, so it is not yet clear what effect it might have.

Experts say the study is still in its early stages, but if it lives up to expectations, it could form the basis for new monoclonal antibody products as well as a vaccine.
