Jitiya fasting begins with taking a bath.

Nirjala fast will be observed on Sunday 18 September 2022.

Jitiya Vrat Nahay Khay: On the day of Saptami, there is a rule of taking bath. On the night of bathing, some food is kept on the terrace in all four directions. It is believed that this food is kept for chile and sirin. The method of eating a bath is done a day before the fasting of Jitiya Vrat Nirjala. In this, bath is taken first thing in the morning, after that in many places fasting fish, Madua's bread is eaten.

Jitiya Vrat Puja Method: Take bath and wear clean clothes. After this worship Lord Jimutvahan. For this, offer incense-lamp, rice, flowers etc. to the statue of Jimutvahan made of Kusha. In this fast, idols of eagle and siyarin are made from clay and cow dung. Red vermilion vaccine is applied on their forehead. After the worship is over, the story of Jivitputrika Vrat is heard. After Parana, give donation and dakshina as much as possible.
Jitiya Vrat Katha: According to the legend, when Dronacharya was killed in the war of Mahabharata, his son Ashwatthama got angry and started Brahmastra, due to which the child born in the womb of Abhimanyu's wife Uttara was destroyed. Then Lord Krishna revived it. For this reason it was named Jivitputrika. Since then mothers started observing this fast with the wish of long life of their son.
