A suspected Al Qaeda terrorist has been arrested from a madrasa in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur. The Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police arrested the terrorist after reaching Saharanpur. The arrested terrorist has been identified as Hasnat Sheikh.

Terrorist arrested for murder of Bangladeshi blogger

It is being told that the suspected Al Qaeda terrorist arrested by the STF team is a resident of Malda district of West Bengal and was involved in the murder of Bangladesh blogger Abhijit Roy in 2015.

It is suspected that Hasnat Sheikh is linked to the international terrorist group Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). After Hasnat's arrest, his mother claimed that her son was admitted to a madrasa in Saharanpur. He told, after studying in a local madrasa in Malda, he got admission in a madrasa in Burdwan. Hasnat's family members and villagers have also claimed that they did not know anything about his involvement with terrorist organisations.
