In a statement posted on its Twitter handle, LPU said, the preliminary investigation by the police and the contents of the suicide note point to the personal issues of the student.

A first year student of a private university committed suicide in Phagwara, Punjab, against which fellow students protested on the campus. The police gave this information on Wednesday. He told that a student from Kerala used to study Bachelor in Design at Lovely Profession University (LPU). The student committed suicide on Tuesday. Policemen were deployed outside the campus following protests by other students in the university campus.

Police recovered suicide note

A police officer in Phagwara said prima facie it appeared from the suicide note of the student that he had some personal problems. Police said the student's parents have been informed and investigation is on. The district administration official of Kapurthala appealed to the students not to pay heed to rumours. LPU has expressed grief over this unfortunate incident.

According to the statement, the university mourns the death of the student and extends its condolences to the bereaved family.
