Jai Ram Thakur had registered a thumping victory in the last elections
In the 2017 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur had registered a thumping victory. Contesting from Siraj seat, he defeated Congress leader Chetram by a margin of 11254 votes.
There will also be a clash between Jairam and Chetram in the current assembly elections

BJP released the list of 62 candidates, cut tickets of 11 MLAs including a minister
In view of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday released the first list of 62 candidates. The party has cut the tickets of 11 MLAs, including a minister, while the seats of two ministers have been changed. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur will once again contest from Siraj assembly constituency. Former Union Minister Sukh Ram's son Anil Sharma has been fielded by the BJP from Mandi. In the list of 62 candidates released today, five women have also been given tickets. BJP leaders said that within the next two days, the names of the candidates will be announced on the remaining six seats of the BJP. There are 68 seats in the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
Congress releases list of 46 candidates
Congress released its first list of 46 candidates for the Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, which includes the names of senior leaders including Vikramaditya Singh, son of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and leader of the legislature party Mukesh Agnihotri. According to the list released by the party, Vikramaditya Singh has been given ticket once again from his current seat Shimla Rural.
Assembly elections on 12 November
Assembly elections are to be held in Himachal Pradesh on November 12. The counting of votes will take place on December 8. The last date for filing nominations is October 25 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is October 29. The BJP currently has 43 members while the Congress has 22 members in the state assembly. There are two independent members and one member of the CPI(M) in the house. There is likely to be a direct contest between the BJP and the Congress in the state. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is also trying to make its presence felt here.
