The Congress on Thursday urged the Ministry of External Affairs to immediately intervene for the release of three Indian fishermen lodged in Indonesian jails. 

All India Fishermen's Congress (AIFC) chief S. Armstrong Fernando met Vishwas Sapkal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs and handed over a memorandum sharing his concerns. 

The memorandum stated that eight fishermen from Tamil Nadu and Kerala had left for fishing from Andaman on February 17. On March 7, Indonesian authorities seized the boat and detained the fishermen on charges of crossing the maritime border. 

Four of these eight fishermen were released on 28 April. But four were left there. One of these four fishermen, Jesin Das, died due to alleged severe torture in custody. 

Fernando requested the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene for the release of the remaining three Indian fishermen without further delay and ensure their return. 

38 Indian nationals sent to Kolkata: Embassy

The Indian Embassy in Yangon has informed that it has sent 38 Indians, who were victimized by the International Crime Syndicate, to the country. These Indian nationals were brought from Myawaddy area of ​​Myanmar. All these citizens have left for Kolkata from Yangon. From here he will go to his native places.
